Elevate Your Spirit with Tea

As the new year kicks off, many people take part in “Dry January,” a month-long break from alcoholic beverages, others (such as myself) may opt out of drinking all year around. Making the conscious choice to not consume alcohol can be the perfect opportunity to explore delicious, creative, and healthier drink alternatives. While some might switch to artificially-flavored fizzy options like soda and flavored seltzers, or coffee, we suggest looking at tea in a whole new light.

At Wight Tea Co., we love showcasing the many possibilities of tea—beyond the traditional ritual—by crafting memorable moments and experiences in every cup.

Flavorful Variety

Tea comes in a broad range of flavors, from robust black teas to delicate herbals to everything in between. This complexity makes tea a versatile base for all sorts of beverages.

A Lighter Choice

When it comes to finding alternatives for sugary sodas or highly caffeinated drinks, tea can be a lighter, often lower-caffeine option. Many of our blends are crafted to offer intriguing taste profiles that stand on their own, without the need for excessive sweeteners.

Versatile and Creative

Tea can be brewed hot or cold, mixed with or infused into syrups, and paired with fruits and/or herbs. It serves as an excellent base for alcohol-free cocktails or mocktails, turning Dry January or literally any situation that calls for a premium beverage into a fun flavor adventure.

(Note: We’re steering clear of any unverified health claims, but tea is widely recognized as a beverage that can fit well into a balanced lifestyle.)

Mocktails to Try

At Wight Tea Co., we love experimenting with our blends in mocktail recipes that transform tea into something truly special. Here are a couple of our favorites. For a look at all of our tea blends, check out our teas page.

Cranberry Thyme Spritz

Why We Love It

This mocktail strikes the perfect balance between tart and savory notes. Cranberry juice brings a festive flair, while a sprig of fresh thyme adds a subtle herbal twist.

How to Make It

1. Create Your Tea Syrup: Brew 10g Wight Tea Co's Cranberry Thyme white tea in 1 cup of water for 5 minutes using boiling water. Strain tea leaves and pour the brew over 1 cup of granulated sugar and stir until all the sugar is dissolved. Pour into a squeeze bottle or other container.

2. Combine Flavors: In a hi-ball glass, mix 1.5oz tea syrup, 1.5 oz lemon juice over ice.

3. Add Sparkle: Top with ginger beer for light, spicy effervescence.

4. Garnish: Stir in a sprig of fresh thyme to elevate the aroma and presentation.

(Tip: If you’re feeling extra festive, toss dampened fresh or frozen cranberries in sugar, spear 3 onto a cocktail pick, and place across your drink rim for a decorative touch!)

Maryland Mint Fauxjito

Why We Love It

Inspired by the classic Mojito, this “Fauxjito” swaps out rum for tea, giving you a refreshing minty beverage that still feels like a treat. This recipe is perfect for making a 64oz pitcher to share with a group or to save to sip on throughout the week.

How to Make It

1. Steep the Tea: Steep 5 teaspoons of Wight Tea Co's Maryland Mint tea in 16 oz (2 cups) of just-below-boiling water for 2-3 minutes. Strain and let cool.

2. Build the Batch: Fill a 64 oz pitcher 3/4 full of ice. Add the 16 oz of Maryland Mint. Add 8 oz simple syrup and 8 oz lime juice.

3. Finish: Top with club soda and give it a good stir.

4. Pour Yourself A Glass: Don't forget to garnish with a spring of mint and a lime slice.

Beyond the Ritual: Tea As Possibility

Many tea drinkers talk about “the ritual”—that moment of calm when you steep, sip, and reflect. At Wight Tea Co., we wholeheartedly embrace that aspect, but we also see tea as an incredibly adaptable beverage, open to endless experimentation. If you are looking for something new and flavorful, tea-based mocktails are an easy way to enjoy a special occasion without the alcohol.

Create Your Own Tea Mocktail

Ready to invent a signature drink of your own? Here’s a quick framework:

1. Choose a Tea Base: Consider the flavor profile (fruity, floral, spicy, smoky) and brew a concentrated batch.

2. Add a Zing: Fresh juices (citrus, berry), herb sprigs (basil, rosemary), or even a pinch of spice can lend extra depth.

3. Balance It Out: If you want sweetness, go for natural sweeteners like agave or honey. If you prefer tartness, stick to citrus juices.

4. Finish With Fizz: Sparkling water or low-sugar ginger beer can add effervescence and a touch of flavor.
